Ivanhoe Mines
Robert is an Analyst, Corporate Development at Ivanhoe Mines, a position he has held since March 2023 in London. He focuses on advancing the Canadian mining company's three principal Southern African projects: the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex expansion, the Platreef palladium-rhodium-platinum-nickel-copper-gold project construction, and the restart of the ultra-high-grade Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver mine. He also works on building the company’s development pipeline, delivering the M&A and partnering strategy, and the execution of project financing.
Prior to Ivanhoe Mines, he served as Analyst, Business Development for Elemental Altus Royalties (Aug 2021 - Mar 2023), where he supported the growth of the company’s portfolio from 6 royalties to over 80 though acquisitions and M&A. Between Aug 2022 and Jul 2025, he has also served as a committee member of the Young Mining Professionals London, a not-for-profit with the goal of advancing the global profile and leadership of the mining and exploration industry.
A fresh approach to discovery
Ivanhoe Mines, founded by renowned mining entrepreneur Robert Friedland, is a world leader in exploring for and developing major copper deposits, with over 52Mt of contained copper above a 1% cut-off grade discovered in the DRC since 2008 including the world class Kamoa-Kakula Complex.
The Kamoa-Kakula journey started 30 years ago with the acquisition of an enormous land package on the then defined margin of the Central African Copperbelt, at the time thought to be non-prospective for sediment hosted copper mineralisation. Fast forward to today, Kamoa-Kakula is one of the worlds largest, highest grade, and greenest copper producing complexes.
In 2024 Ivanhoe Mines entered Kazakhstan with joint venture partner Pallas Resources with the aim of making the world’s next great copper discovery in the Chu-Sarysu Basin, already the 3rd largest sediment hosted copper basin globally. Utilising the same blueprint that led to the Kamoa-Kakula discovery, the joint venture has acquired a 16,780km2 land package and began drilling on a maiden 17,500m program within 10 months of forming the joint venture.
